The accused, identified as Nasir Birajdar, had been nursing a one-sided love for the victim and his advances had been rejected by her several times in the past.

As per the FIR, he was also demanding money from her to buy another autorickshaw and she had stopped going in his autorickshaw. She used to commute by a two-wheeler.

At around 8.30 am on April 24, Nasir and his accomplice came on a bike and intercepted Rajni near the Station Headquarters Khadki on the road going to the ammunition factory. He stabbed Rajni with a knife. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Following the incident, the Pune city police launched an investigation into the matter and were able to track down Nasir, who had fled. He was apprehended in Karnataka and brought back to Khadki where he was charged with murder.

Rajni is survived by her two children. Based on a complaint from her brother, the Khadki police station has registered an FIR against the accused.
