Pune, 25th July 2023: In response to the prevailing weather conditions and the possibility of heavy rainfall, the authorities at the Khadakwasla Dam have taken a significant step to increase the discharge of water into the Mutha river basin.

As of 9 pm today, the dam’s spillway has been releasing 856 cusecs of water, which is a considerable rise from the previous discharge of 428 cusecs from 7 pm.

At 10 pm, the water release was further increased to 1712 cusecs.

The decision to increase the water discharge from the Khadakwasla Dam spillway was taken by the Sub Divisional Engineer responsible for overseeing the Khadakwasla, Panshet, and Varasgaon projects. The move comes as a precautionary measure to maintain the reservoir’s water levels within manageable limits, especially in the event of heavy rainfall in the region.

“It should also be noted that there is a possibility of reducing/increasing the discharge again depending on the amount of rain and its arrival,” said the Sub Divisional Engineer in an official statement.

The increased discharge into the Mutha river basin may have implications for the downstream areas, and local residents are urged to remain cautious and take necessary precautions.

The Khadakwasla Dam, which serves as a crucial water resource for the region, plays a vital role in flood control and water supply. Managing its water levels effectively is crucial to avoid flooding and ensure a steady supply of water for various purposes.
