Kalyani Nagar, 10th November 2023: The lively streets of Kalyani Nagar are under the shadow as relentless rain exposes the absence of functioning streetlights along Central Avenue Road, Near Mamta Super Market. This oversight, aggravated by the heavy rainfall, has given rise to a perilous situation impacting the safety and well-being of residents and commuters alike.

Residents have voiced their concerns regarding:

  • The lack of adequate lighting drastically reduces visibility on the roads and elevates the risk of accidents for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists navigating through near darkness.
  • The poorly lit areas may potentially invite anti-social elements that could render the residents and commuters more susceptible to criminal activities.
  • The rain-induced waterlogging, coupled with non-functional streetlights, conceals potholes and ditches, transforming them into hidden traps that pose a significant risk to pedestrians and drivers.
  • Reduced visibility and water clogging contribute to traffic disruptions and ultimately lead to prolonged delays and increased frustration among commuters.

In response to this alarming situation, residents are urgently calling upon the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to undertake immediate street light repairs and initiate comprehensive maintenance along Central Avenue Road. The recommendations include:

  • Swift restoration of streetlights to enhance visibility and contribute to a safer environment.
  • Implementation of a regular inspection schedule to promptly identify and address issues, preventing prolonged periods of non-functionality.
  • Improvement of the drainage system to minimize waterlogging during heavy rainfall and reduce the risk of accidents caused by obscured road conditions.
  • Consideration of smart street lighting solutions capable of automatic fault detection and reporting, streamlining the maintenance process and reducing response times.

The current scenario underscores the critical need for swift action by the PMC. Addressing these issues promptly and implementing preventive measures will ensure the safety and well-being of residents, fostering a secure and resilient community capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions.
