Vadgaonsheri, 10th November 2023: Amid the escalating Air Quality Index in Delhi and Pune, Kalyani Nagar residents faced another episode of indiscriminate garbage burning on 9th November 2023, around 1:20 PM near Golden Suites in Vadgaonsheri, Pune.

This incident follows closely on the heels of a recent occurrence near the Connoisseur’s Club, marking the second consecutive instance of garbage burning. Residents express disappointment over the lack of adherence to environmental norms, directly impacting Pune’s air quality index and jeopardizing the well-being of its residents.

Monica Sharma, a sound activist from Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar (TSKN), voiced dismay at the recurring garbage-burning near Golden Suites, stating, “Urgent action by the PMC is imperative. These activities tarnish our surroundings and pose a direct threat to our well-being. Pollution is choking our community, and our pleas for a cleaner environment seem to echo in silence. Urging authorities to take decisive measures against this environmental peril. Our collective voice seeks a Pune where the air is pure, and our concerns resonate beyond the smoke.”

Dr. Sameer Kokane, a General Physician, highlighted the insidious nature of air pollution, stating, “Air pollution is an unseen thief, silently robbing us of our health, one breath at a time.”

In response, Pradipkumar Raut, PMC Sanitization Officer, stated, “This morning, we charged the culprits a fine of Rs. 1000 for two days.”
