Pune, 5th April 2024: In a rare move, a special court judge visited Sassoon Hospital on Thursday to evaluate the medical condition of the accused involved in the multi-crore loan misappropriation case of Seva Vikas Sahakari Bank in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The judge, KP Nandedkar from the MPID Court, took the initiative to inquire about the health status of the accused during a judicial proceeding. Accompanied by Public Prosecutor Maruti Wadekar, court staff, and stenographer, Judge Nandedkar went to Ward No. 15 of the hospital to meet with Adv. Sagar Suryavanshi.

Suryavanshi, one of the accused, informed the judge about experiencing a burning sensation in his chest and back pain. Concerned about his well-being, Judge Nandedkar requested the doctor to conduct a thorough examination. The medical assessment revealed that while Suryavanshi’s overall health was stable, he was diagnosed with high blood pressure. Taking this into consideration, the judge ordered Suryavanshi to be transferred to judicial custody for treatment.

Meanwhile, Rosary School Director Vinay Aranha, another accused in the case, was remanded to police custody for two days. Both Aranha and Suryavanshi were arrested by the CID on charges of cheating depositors.

The legal proceedings unfolded swiftly after their arrest, with Special Judge Sunil Vedpathak presiding over a late-night hearing around 12:30 AM, extending the police custody of both accused individuals until April 4th.

Aranha, who was previously in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), faces allegations of involvement in a money laundering scam amounting to Rs 429 crore. The ED is investigating this matter.

Aranha and his co-accused Suryanwashi were taken from the custody of the ED.
