Pune, 7th May 2023: The Maharashtra Day (1st May) deadline to start the extended metro line has been missed. Now, Mahametro has completed the work on both the extended lines. Both these extended lines are being inspected by the Metro Railway Safety Commissioner. The sources in Mahametro informed that the service will start on these lines after the commissioner approves of the same.

At present, the metro service is running on two lines. Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Station to Phugewadi Station and Vanaz Station to Garware College Station, two routes totaling 12 km were opened for passengers on 6th March 2022. After that, the work of an extension of 12 km from Phugewadi to District Court and Garware College to Ruby Hall Station has been completed.

The Metro has been successfully tested on new extended routes. These routes are being inspected by the Metro Rail Safety Commissioner and his team. Mahametro will get the final report in five to six days after the inspection of both these routes is completed.

If the commissioner gives the green light, this report will be submitted to the state government. The state government will then decide to start the service on the extended route. Mahametro sources said that the timing of the inauguration of the extended service will be decided by the state government.
