Pune, 26th July 2024: In response to the excessive rainfall and adverse conditions affecting Pune city and district, the Minister of State for Cooperation and Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, has issued directives for an immediate Panchnama (damage assessment) and swift assistance to affected citizens. These instructions were given during a review meeting held at the government rest house to address the district’s situation.

Attendees of the meeting included Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, MLAs Madhuri Misal, Bhimrao Tapkir, and Siddharth Shirole, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, District Magistrate Dr. Suhas Diwase, PMRDA Additional Commissioner Deepak Singla, Additional Police Commissioner Manoj Patil, Executive Director of Water Resources Department Atul Kapole, Chief Engineer of Bridge Works Department Hanumant Gunale, and Chief Engineer of MSEDCL Rajendra Pawar.

Minister Mohol emphasized the severe disruption caused by excessive rainfall, which has made it difficult to provide essential services to displaced residents in the affected areas. He called for immediate cleaning efforts, the provision of food and clean water, and health checkups for citizens to control the spread of diseases. Mohol also urged the government to deploy additional manpower to handle the crisis efficiently.

To prevent undue stress among citizens due to water discharge from dams, the Water Resources Department has been instructed to inform public representatives, revenue, municipal corporation, police administration, and local agencies ahead of any planned water release. This information should also be communicated to residents of riverside villages through local systems. The implementation of CCTV systems in restricted city areas and the restoration of power supply by MSEDCL were also highlighted as critical measures.

Mohol underscored the importance of minimizing academic loss for students. He suggested providing replacements for water-damaged educational documents to ensure continuity in their education.

Union Minister Mohol left the parliamentary session to visit Pune, arriving at Pune Airport and immediately touring the affected areas on Thursday, including Kachivasti in Sangamwadi, where he interacted with distressed families. He also reviewed the Municipal Corporation’s disaster management efforts in Patil Estate.

Mohol met with residents of Ekta Nagri and Vitthal Nagar on Sinhagad Road to assess the effectiveness of the measures initiated by the Municipal Corporation. He assured the citizens that Panchnama and relief work would be completed promptly to alleviate their distress.
