Pune: IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Heavy Rain in Maharashtra, Including Pune and Satara

Pune, 16th June 2024: Light to heavy rains are occurring at isolated places in Maharashtra, although the movement of southwest monsoon winds has stalled. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for heavy rain in most districts of Vidarbha, including Pune, Satara, Ratnagiri, Raigad, and Sindhudurg today.

Konkan, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha received light to heavy showers at isolated places over the last 24 hours. Harsul in Nashik recorded 77 mm of rainfall, while Khed in Ratnagiri recorded 71 mm. Vidarbha is still waiting for heavy rain. Even in the areas where the monsoon has arrived, the rains have not reached the expected intensity.

The rain-exposed areas are experiencing cloudy weather with scorching sun and heat. In the absence of rain, the maximum temperature in Vidarbha has crossed 40 degrees Celsius. The highest maximum temperature in Maharashtra was recorded at Brahmapuri in Vidarbha at 41.3 degrees Celsius. Chandrapur also saw temperatures exceeding 40 degrees.

A heavy rain warning has been issued today for Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts of Konkan, along with Pune and Satara districts of Central Maharashtra. Meanwhile, the IMD has warned of heavy winds and lightning at isolated places in Vidarbha.
