Pune, 5th June 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) demolished illegal structures of several prominent restaurants and bars in Koregaon Park’s Lane No. 7, following years of complaints from local residents. This move comes in the wake of mounting public outcry and the recent tragic deaths of two IT engineers, which brought renewed attention to the issues plaguing the area.

Residents of Koregaon Park have long voiced their concerns about the disturbances caused by these unauthorized establishments. The complaints ranged from loud noise and haphazard parking to disruptive behavior by revellers and the constant flow of cabs. Despite these persistent issues, the municipal authorities, police, and excise departments had previously turned a blind eye, continuing to grant permissions for these commercial operations within residential zones.

Rohan Desai, a member of the Koregaon Park Residents Welfare Association, echoed this sentiment. “Lane 7 residents have been complaining about these totally illegal structures for a long time. The noise pollution, parking issues, broken bottles, and garbage created by these businesses have been a constant nuisance. We welcome the PMC and the Anti-Encroachment Department’s action today and hope similar measures will be taken against other illegal establishments.”

The establishments targeted in today’s demolition included prominent bars and restaurants such as Palmoco Bar, Bramanka, and Chul Mutton Restaurants, as well as a muscle bar open gym and a vegetable shop.
