Pune, 4th July 2023: Pune-Howrah Azad Hind Express, a daily train that experiences high demand, has faced a series of disruptions over the past two months. The train has been cancelled nine times and rescheduled 68 times in last 6 months, causing inconvenience to passengers.

In May 2023, the train was rescheduled 20 times and cancelled twice. In June, it was rescheduled 22 times and cancelled once. The train’s schedule continues to be a source of frustration for passengers, as they receive bulk messages in advance about delays and cancellations. The Pune Divisional Railway Manager’s Twitter handle also provides daily updates on the train’s status.

Passengers have expressed their dissatisfaction with the frequent disruptions, as they had planned their journeys well in advance and now face sudden changes. Sakshi Das Gupta, an IT engineer working in Pune, called for railway officials to take immediate action to address the issue.

Pune-Howrah Azad Hind Express faces disruptions as it traverses multiple railway zones, including the Bilaspur and Raipur divisions. Ongoing development work in these divisions results in significant delays for the train’s arrival at Pune railway station, said Milind Hirve, the Senior Divisional Commissioner Manager in Pune.

A senior officer from the Central Railway explained that remodeling and extension work in the affected divisions have contributed to the high number of cancellations. However, they were unable to provide a timeline for when the situation might improve.

Pushpal Banerjee, who has been directly affected by the train’s delays, expressed frustration with the constant rescheduling and cancellations. The Azad Hind Express, train number 12129/12130, has been consistently delayed, with a recent instance of cancellation occurring after an 18-hour delay. Banerjee called for urgent attention and a solution to the ongoing problems.

Madhuri Patel, an IT engineer residing in Rourkela, shared her experience as a passenger relying on the Pune-Howrah route. She highlighted the limited options available, with only two trains serving the route, both of which have experienced frequent delays. The lengthy journey, which already takes over two days, becomes even more burdensome when faced with delays, as there is no direct flight option from Pune airport.
