Pune, 22nd February 2024: Hotel associations in Pune are seeking clarity from the Police Commissioner regarding recent orders, with plans to meet next week. Unclear guidelines have caused panic among restaurant owners, especially concerning the legality of herbal hookahs. Club owners are eager to discuss this with the Commissioner, citing previous statements affirming herbal hookah’s legality.

Amitesh Kumar, the Pune Police Commissioner, had previously stated that herbal hookahs are legal as per government guidelines. In response, hotel associations are drafting a proposal to include sound decibel measurements in an effort to prevent fake calls about loud music.

One concern raised by club owners is the interference with business when police arrive to shut down sound systems. Despite owners being confident in compliance, customers may perceive it negatively. The focus is on finding a balance to avoid unnecessary disruptions.

Members of the United Hospitality Association (UHA) have expressed appreciation for Commissioner Amitesh Kumar’s efforts in maintaining law and order. The upcoming meeting aims to address these concerns and provide clarity on the evolving guidelines affecting the hospitality industry in Pune.

Joint CP Praveen Pawar told Punekar News, “The 144 section is valid for 14 days, and during this period, people can give their suggestions, objections to us. Meanwhile, we have instructed the police personnel not to disturb customers at restaurants and pubs.”

Excise Superintendent CB Rajput said that they are also taking action against rooftop restaurants and pubs for violating rules.
