Pune Hockey Tournament: Army Boys lay off Dhyanchand Academy for Title Nitesh Kumar nets three for winners

Pune 7th October 2023: Army Boys Sports Company (ABSC) put up a fight to lay their land hands on the 7th SNBP All-India Boys (Under-16) Hockey Tournament at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi-Mhalunge, on Friday.

In a thrilling final, ABSC opened the day when Samir (6th) netted, but then it was Dhyanchand Academy who stepped up the pace and dominated.

Two goals thereafter by Dhyanchand Academy’s Kallu Ali, one a field goal and the other off a penalty-corner turned the tide of the match away from ABSC. The first came almost immediately – in the 6th minute of play to level 1-1 and then the next came off a clean hit that went past the army boys ‘keeper P.Vinay M (2-1).

Showing fighting capabilities, the army boys levelled terms through Nitesh Sharma (13th) to make it 2-2.

Just ahead of half time it was Dhyanchand Academy who took the first half honours when Abhishek Kujur (25th) converted a penalty-corner (3-2).

However, it was the Army Boys who had the final honours in the scoring department when Nitesh Sharma knocked in two goals (44th, 59th) to seal the contest.

Third place was clinched by Round Glass Academy with a comfortable 5-1 win over hosts SNBP Academy.

Later the prizes were given away by Dr. D. K. Bhosale (Founder Chairman and Director SNBP Group of Institutes), Dr. Vrishali Bhosale (President Director SNBP Group of Institutes) in the presence of Guest of Honour Olympian Shri. Rajinder Singh Sr., India International Ajitesh Roy. Also gracing the occassion was Devyani Bhosale, Director SNBP Group of Institutes and Adv. Rutuja Bhosale, Director SNBP Group of Institutes
