Pune Hit-and-Run: One Dead, Three Injured As Audi Driver Strikes Bikers In Koregaon Park

Koregaon Park, 11th October 2024: A tragic hit-and-run incident has once again shaken the city, as a speeding luxury car (Audi) mowed down two bikers in the Koregaon Park area late last night, resulting in the death of one person. The accident occurred around 1:30 AM in front of the Google Building on ABC Road, near Tadi Guta Chowk.

According to DCP (Zone 5) R Raja, the luxury car, with registration number MH12 NE 4464, first collided with an Activa scooter carrying three people before hitting another two-wheeler of Rauf Akbar Shaikh from behind. Shaikh was rushed to Noble Hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries. Three other individuals sustained injuries in the collision. The accused driver works as senior executive with an electronics company located in Ranjangaon MIDC.

Initial reports suggest that the car driver may have been under the influence of alcohol. After the crash, the driver fled the spot at high speed, leaving the victims behind. Shaikh, who was critically injured, died during treatment. He worked as a food delivery boy.

“Through CCTV footage from the vicinity of the accident, we identified the luxury car involved. The police tracked the car’s registration and subsequently located the driver, Ayush Pradeep Tayal (34), a resident of Hadapsar. Tayal was arrested from his home, and his car has been seized by the police for further investigation”, informed DCP Raja.

When asked if the driver was drunk, the officer said, “We’ll conduct a medical test, and then we will know.”

A case has been registered by Mundhwa police station for offences under sections 105 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 281 (rash driving), 125(a) (act endangering life), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and other relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
