Pune: Hinjawadi, Wakad Traffic Altered To Curb Jams Amid Metro Work And Vehicle Surge; P1-P2 Parking In Kokane Chowk Area
Hinjawadi, 8th August 2023: The volume of vehicular traffic, spanning both heavy and small vehicles, has witnessed a notable surge within Hinjawadi, the hub of information and technology companies.
Concurrently, ongoing metro construction has compounded the issue, leading to escalating traffic congestion.
Responding to this concern, modifications have been introduced in the traffic flow within the Hinjawadi area, as directed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic Branch) Kakasaheb Dole of Pimpri Chinchwad Police.
The flow of vehicles towards Hinjawadi IT Park from Marunji Y Junction, Bhumkar Chowk, and Kala Khadak has experienced a marked increase. Kala Khadak chowk has become a crucial juncture for heavy vehicles executing turns, consequently contributing to significant traffic bottlenecks. In light of these challenges, strategic alterations in traffic routes have been implemented.
The previously utilized right ‘U-turn’ at Marunji Y Junction has been suspended. Commuters heading towards Lakshmi Chowk are directed to reroute through Vinode Corner, passing via Kasturi Chowk. One-way traffic now flows exclusively from Marunji Y Junction to Kasturi Chowk, with the opposite direction closed. Traffic from Kasturi Chowk to Marunji Y Junction has been rechanneled via Vinode Corner.
Accessibility through the Wakad Kaverinagar subway has been limited exclusively to two-wheelers and rickshaws, with other vehicles restricted. Vehicles en route to Kalewadi Phata from Kaverinagar and Venunagar are directed to utilize the Gujnagar subway. Those proceeding from 16 number will be redirected via Kalewadi Phata.
Moreover, specific areas, including Shivsai Lane, Govind Yashda Chowk, Wardli, and Pimple Saudagar, have been designated as P1-P2 zones.
In a bid to alleviate traffic congestion, the Kokane Chowk region, stretching to Park Street Housing Society, has faced an influx of two-wheelers and four-wheelers parking on the thoroughfare. This has led to traffic obstructions and a surge in minor and serious accidents.
Consequently, the service road extending up to Kokane Chowk, encompassing Raghunath Godambe Chowk and Kokane Chowk Chowpatty, has been designated as a no-vehicle zone, aiming to streamline traffic movement and enhance safety measures.
