Hinjawadi, 6th September 2024: The road from Maan Hinjawadi to Wakad, up to the Katraj Dehu Road bypass, is severely deteriorated and in dire condition. This area falls under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). PMRDA has directly blamed the Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) for the poor road conditions and issued a notice, giving them a 15-day ultimatum. PMRDA has instructed Metro to repair the roads or face action, which may include halting the work.

The third and crucial line of the Pune Metro, from Maan Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar, is being constructed by PITCMRL. During the construction, the road from Hinjawadi to Wakad has been damaged. After receiving complaints from motorists about the poor road conditions, it was decided that Metro should repair the roads. This decision was made in a meeting with the Divisional Commissioner, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and PMRDA. Additionally, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had ordered that the roads be kept in good condition immediately.

Despite these directives, the concerned company has neglected the road repairs, prompting PMRDA’s Metropolitan Commissioner, Dr Yogesh Mhase, to issue a notice to the company. Due to the ongoing neglect, there have been continuous complaints from motorists and local citizens. These repairs were supposed to be completed within a set timeframe, but no concrete action has been taken. Dr Mhase’s notice emphasizes that road repair work should commence immediately and that efforts should be made to prevent traffic jams. All repairs must be completed within fifteen days, or the company’s metro work will be suspended.

NHAI Also Points to Metro for Road Deterioration

In a report by Punekar News in July regarding the dire condition of the service road from Bhujbal Chowk to Bhumkar Chowk in Wakad, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) also blamed the metro construction work for the road deterioration. At that time, the Metro authorities promised to resolve the issue within a week, but the condition has yet to be addressed.
