Pune, 11th July 2023: The stalled construction work on the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar route of the Pune Metro, which had been closed since last month, will soon recommence.

The obstacle impeding the progress of the Pune Metro project has been resolved, as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch, Vijay Kumar Magar, has granted permission for barricading on Ganeshkhind road. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) will initiate repairs at Agriculture College Chowk and resume Metro work within the next two to three days.

PMRDA had sought permission from the traffic police to erect barricades at Agriculture College Chowk for Metro construction. In June, Pune hosted two meetings of the G-20 working group and witnessed the Palkhi ceremony procession. Consequently, barricading for the Metro project was prohibited. However, since the traffic police did not grant permission for barricading, the Metro work was halted on Ganeshkhind road. Now, with the traffic police’s approval, work can resume.

DCP Magar inspected the Metro construction site on Ganeshkhind road. To allow traffic to pass through Agriculture College Chowk, only a three-meter stretch of road will remain open during Metro work. Magar suggested that the road chamber at the Chowk be leveled and the road repaired. He advised PMRDA officials to commence work without causing significant disruptions to traffic.

According to sources, the Metro work will resume within the next two to three days.

The Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar Metro line spans 23 km, with a double-decker flyover set to be constructed between Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk and E-Square along the route. The length of this bridge will be 1.7 km, and it will become an integral part of the Metro system. Due to the barricading restrictions imposed in June, the Metro work has experienced a delay, potentially affecting the project’s completion timeline by approximately 10 to 15 days.
