Pune, 14th April 2023: The work on the Pune Metro line connecting the hub of IT companies in Hinjawadi to the central part of Shivajinagar has now gained momentum. The process of lifting the pillars of the station building along with the pair of viaduct pillars has started. The construction of the ‘Platform Pier Arm’ (PPA) of the proposed station on Baner Road started on Thursday (13th April).

The construction of the PPA of the proposed 18th station on the Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar Metro line began today in front of Yashda on Baner Road. There will be a total of 23 stations on the Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar metro line. The pillars for each of these stations will have two PPA arms each for the concourse and platform levels.

Interestingly, a year ago on this day, the first pillar of this route was lifted on Ganeshkhind Road.

The platform arm is an important structural element in metro station construction. These PPAs are attached like branches of a tree on both sides of the pillar which maintains the sway of the metro station. The entire platform of the metro station to be built next to them is weighed. It is called Platform Pear Arm as it looks like two arms extended from the body when viewed from the front. Erection of platform pillars and pier arms for any elevated type of metro is considered to be a very complex task.

Pune Metro Line-3 is a 23 km elevated metro rail project connecting Hinjawadi to the central part of Shivajinagar. It is being implemented through public-private partnerships. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has awarded the project to a consortium comprising Tata Group’s Trill Urban Transport Private Limited (TUTPL) and Siemens Project Ventures. The project will be developed and operated by Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, a special purpose company, for 35 years on a build, operate, and transfer basis.
