Pune: Hinjawadi Police Register Case Against Husband, In-Laws Following Woman’s Suicide in Mhalunge

Mhalunge, 3rd September 2024: A 23-year-old woman in Mhalunge near Balewadi has died by suicide. She lived in the VTP Leonara Society and allegedly took her own life due to ongoing mental and physical abuse by her husband and in-laws. On 17th August, she hanged herself at her residence. Her mother, a 42-year-old resident of Shirval, filed a complaint with the Hinjawadi Police Station. The deceased has been identified as Asawari Akshay Dalvi.

The police have registered a case against her husband, Akshay Arvind Dalvi (age 27, resident of Mhalunge, originally from Satara), her 45-year-old mother-in-law (resident of Satara), and her 34-year-old sister-in-law (resident of Navi Mumbai). They have been charged under BNS Sections 85 (husband or relative of husband subjecting a woman to cruelty), 108 (abetment of suicide), and 3(5) (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

According to police reports, the complainant’s daughter married Akshay Dalvi, the first accused, in December 2023. Since then, her husband and the other accused have been mentally and physically abusing her. Unable to bear the torment, she hanged herself, resulting in her death by suicide. Assistant Police Inspector Poonam Jadhav from Hinjawadi Police Station is investigating the matter further.
