Hinjawadi, 18th February 2024: Acting on a tip-off, the Pimpri Chinchwad police arrested two suspects, identified as Abhishek Rajendra Kakade, 20, and Omkar Ramakrishna Tekam, 18, both residents of Hinjawadi, along with a minor. The arrest took place at Bodkewadi Phata near the IT Park, where the trio was reportedly en route to Maan village.

Upon thorough investigation, the police discovered counterfeit notes with a face value of Rs 1.20 lakh, all in 500 denominations, hidden in the suspects’ car trunk. The operation was led by Assistant Police Inspector Ram Gomare, and a complaint was filed by Police Constable Shrikant Chavan.

“Our detection branch team received information about three individuals in possession of fake notes heading towards Maan village. Subsequently, we detained the trio, recovering counterfeit notes with total face value of Rs 1.20 lakh from their possession. Two arrests have been made, and their minor accomplice has been detained. The investigation is ongoing, with potential further revelations,” stated Shriram Pol, Senior Police Inspector at Hinjawadi Police Station, Pimpri Chinchwad Police.

Initial findings suggest that the counterfeit notes were likely printed at home. However, due to the high quality of the fake currency, officials are exploring the possibility of involvement from individuals outside the state or even abroad.

The arrested individuals, Kakade and Tekam, were presented before the court, which remanded them in police custody until February 21.
