Hinjawadi, 24th July 2024: Societies in the Hinjawadi area, including phases 1, 2, and 3, as well as Marunji and Maan, are facing numerous problems due to poor road conditions. The situation has worsened during the rainy season. The internal roads are in a dire state, causing significant accessibility issues. Even though the residents have complained to local governmental bodies, including Gram Panchayats and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), these problems remain unresolved.

Residents have attempted to contact MP Supriya Sule and other local representatives, but their efforts have been unsuccessful. The situation in Marunji is particularly bad, where over four societies lack proper road access. Residents have complained about the numerous potholes that have worsened due to the rains. School buses, food deliveries, parcel deliveries, cabs, and autorickshaws refuse to come to these societies due to poor road conditions. As a result, residents are forced to walk or use two-wheelers, which is hazardous.

Cars get stuck, bikes slip, and buses stop, all contributing to traffic congestion and other problems, leading to high frustration among residents. In Marunji, housing societies like Elysium, Spring Woods, Candy Floors, and others, which have hundreds of flats, are severely affected by this issue.

One resident from Elysium Society said, “There are many potholes, some longer than 10 feet. The entire road from the main road up to our society is a dirt road. PMRDA approved the budget for these road repairs after MP Supriya Sule intervened one year ago, but still, nothing has changed.”

Another resident voiced his concerns, stating, “The road is very bad. Right now, buses, cabs, and delivery boys refuse to come here. Imagine if there is an emergency and ambulances or other vehicles cannot enter our society. Additionally, there have been previous cases of encroachment by local villagers. We don’t know when this will be resolved.”

A woman resident said, “Due to rainwater stagnation, many mosquitoes have increased. Nowadays, there are dengue and Zika outbreaks all over Pune, and we feel unsafe here too. Our society is planning a dharna protest if this issue doesn’t get resolved.”

Regarding these issues and the frustration of citizens, Punekar News attempted to contact PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, but he did not respond.
