Pune: Hike in Vegetable and Fruit Prices; Demand for Flowers Increases Ahead of Ganeshotsav

Market Yard, 9th September 2024: The prices of Garlic, Carrot, and Peas have increased due to a decrease in state imports. Prices of Onion, Cucumber, and Bell Peppers are increasing. Due to the increasing import, the price of Drumsticks (Shevga) decreased. Traders informed that the prices of other fruits and vegetables are stable.

According to the information received, 70 to 80 truckloads of fruits and vegetables arrived in the wholesale market at Shree Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard on Sunday (September 8) from the state and abroad. Last week, 90 truckloads of fruits and vegetables arrived.

Seven to eight tempos of Green Chillies each from Karnataka, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh; five to six tempos carrying Cabbage each from Karnataka and Gujarat; four to five tempos of Common Bean (Ghewda) from Karnataka and Gujarat; four to five tempos carrying Drumsticks (Shevaga) from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu; seven to eight tempos carrying carrots from the Indore region of Madhya Pradesh; two tempos of Groundnuts (Bhuimug) from Gujarat; seven to eight tempos of Garlic from Madhya Pradesh were imported from imported.

From Pune Division 500 to 600 sacks of Ginger from Satara, seven to eight tempo carrying Okra, five to six tempos of Guar, seven to eight thousand boxes carrying Tomatoes, Green Chilli in three to four tempos, eight to 10 tempo carrying Bell Peppers.

Vehicles from the Purandar, Parner, Wai, and Satara areas carrying 100 boxes of Peas, seven to eight tempos of Cucumber, Cabbages in five to six tempos, Cauliflower in seven to eight tempos, Red Pumpkin in 10 to 12 tempo were reported. Onion in as many as 50 to 60 trucks along with also 50 to 55 tempos of carrying potatoes from Indore, Agra, and local areas.

The demand for fruits has increased due to Ganeshotsav. The price of Sugad-Apple (Sitafal), Melon, Watermelon, Papaya, Chiku, and Guava has increased, while the price of Lemons has reportedly decreased. Traders informed that the prices of Pineapple, Oranges, Mangoes, Apples, and Pomegranates are stable.

In the fruit market on Sunday, eight trucks of pineapples from Kerala, 60 to 70 tons of Sweet Lemon (Mosambi), 70 to 80 tons of Oranges, 40 to 50 tons of Pomegranates, 15 to 20 tempos carrying Papaya, 1,000 to 1,200 sacks of Limes, three to four tempos of Watermelon, two to three tempos of Melon, 2,000 boxes of Chiku, 1,000 to 1,200 plastic crates carrying Guava and 20 to 25 tons of Sweet-Apple (Sitafal) was received.

The demand for flowers has increased due to Ganeshotsav. Flowers are arriving from Pune, Satara, Solapur, Karnataka area. Due to the increase in demand, the prices of all flowers have increased by 10 to 20 per cent. Prices of flowers in the wholesale market are as follows:

Marigold (Zendu): Rs 50 to Rs 100, Mexican Tuberose (Gulchadi): Rs 800 to Rs 1,500, Aster Pair: Rs 40 to Rs 60, Sutta 150 to 250, Chrysanthemum (Shevanti): Rs 150 to Rs 250, Rose pairs: Rs 40 to Rs 60, Tuberose (Gulchadi Kadi): Rs 100 to Rs 150, Dutch rose (20 pcs): Rs 150 to Rs 220, Gerbera Daisies: Rs 70 to Rs 100, Carnation: Rs 150 to Rs 250, Chrysanthemum Sticks (Shevanti kadi): Rs 300 to Rs 400, Lilium (10 sticks): Rs  800 to Rs 1,000, Orchid: Rs 350 to Rs 650, Gypsophila: Rs 250 to Rs 400, Jasminum Auriculatum (Jui): Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200.
