Pune, 24th July 2024: Heavy rainfall in the catchment area of Khadakwasla Dam since Monday has led to significant water accumulation. The rainwater from Panshet, Varasgaon, and Temghar dams, along with runoff from the Pabe Ghat, Agalmbe, and Thakarwadi areas, has contributed to rising water levels in Khadakwasla Dam.

Despite heavy rain not being directly recorded at the dam, nearby streams have overflowed, increasing water levels. In response, a team from the Khadakwasla Irrigation Department, including Branch Engineer Girija Futane Kalyankar, Accountant Ravikant Bhange, Canal Inspector Mukund More, Electrician Raj Sapkal, Gate Operator Pramod Raikar, and Watchman Vishnu Dhondge, has been stationed at the dam office to monitor the situation closely.

Starting at 5 pm on Tuesday, the team began hourly updates on the water level. By 9:30 pm, it was evident that if the rainfall persisted, the dam could reach full capacity. This information was relayed to Executive Engineer Shweta Kurhade and Deputy Engineer Mohan Bhadane for further action.

By 3 am Wednesday, the water level in Khadakwasla Dam had reached 98 percent capacity. To manage this, 2,000 cusecs of water were released into the Mutha River at 3:30 am. As the water level continued to rise, releases were increased to 4,708 cusecs at 6:30 am and 9,416 cusecs by 7 am. T

As rainfall tapered off Wednesday afternoon, the discharge was reduced to 7,276 cusecs by 5 pm. The situation remains under careful observation to ensure the dam’s water levels are effectively managed.
