Pune: Grandmaster Abhimanyu Puranik Wins Gold Medal

Pune, 17th September 2021: The Indian Men’s team consists of Grand Master Abhimanyu Puranik (Pune), GM Venkataraman Karthik (Andhra Pradesh), IM Arjun Kalyan (Tamil Nadu) and IM A Ra Harikrishnan (Tamil Nadu) won the Asian University Men’s Online Chess Championship with 24 points on Sunday while Iran and Malaysia finished as first and second runner up respectively.

 

In the individual event, GM Abhimanyu Puranik finished at top to get the Gold Medal while IM Yeoh Li Tian of Malaysia secured the silver. Abhimanyu scored 7.5 out of 9 to win the title.

Abhimanyu is “Grandmaster” in Chess with many achievements at national and international levels such as World Junior Silver Medal in 2018, National Silver in 2020 and many more. He is also the recipient of “Shivchhatrapati Krida Puraskar” by Maharashtra State Government. His current Fide Rating is 2580.

Abhimanyu Puranik is a student of Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce, Pune, studying in M. Com first year. Principal Dr. Hrishikesh Soman, Vice Principal Dr.Tessy Thadathil and Director of Physical Education and Sports Mr. Anirudha Sharma congratulated Abhimanyu Puranik for his achievement and wished him success for his future endeavors.
