Pimpri Chinchwad, 3rd March 2023: The Maharashtra state government has issued a GR (government resolution) which completely waives the penalty tax (shastikar) imposed on illegal constructions in Pimpri-Chinchwad city, with retrospective effect. The announcement was made after a long-standing struggle of the citizens and the efforts of late BJP MLA Laxman Jagtap and current city president of BJP and MLA Mahesh Landge.

The state government had announced the amnesty during the winter session held in Nagpur, and MLA Landge presented the side of Pimpri-Chinchwad residents in the House, which ultimately led to relief for about one lakh property owners in the city.

The issue of ‘Shastikar’ had burdened the citizens for the last 14 years, and the relief announcement was well-received by the citizens who expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Shinde-Fadnavis government. The amnesty announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in a convention held in Nagpur with the permission of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The election announcement also played a role in the release of the GR, as the BJP-Shiv Sena grand alliance candidate Ashwini Jagtap won the Chinchwad Assembly by-election by a massive margin.

MLA Landge has expressed gratitude to the leaders of all parties, including the late Laxman Jagtap, who contributed to the fight for amnesty.

The waiver of the penalty tax has provided much-needed relief to the citizens, and the state government’s decision is being lauded by the people.
