Reported by Amit Singh
Pune, 19th April 2025: General Manager of Central Railway, Dharam Veer Meena, conducted an inspection of Pune Junction, Hadapsar, and Khadki railway stations today to review ongoing infrastructure development works. The visit aimed to assess the progress of projects under the Indian Railways’ station redevelopment initiatives.
During the inspection, the GM was accompanied by key officials including Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Rajesh Kumar Verma, Senior Divisional Operations Manager (Sr DOM) Dr Ramdas Bhishe, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr DCM) AK Pathak, and Senior Divisional Engineer (Sr DEN) Vijay Kumar Rai.
Officials confirmed that Hadapsar and Khadki terminals will become operational within the next 90 days. The Pune railway station remodeling project is also scheduled to begin soon after. GM Meena directed officials to execute the projects on a war footing and assured that he will personally visit every month to monitor the developments.
Hadapsar Railway Terminal Nears Full Operation:
The Hadapsar railway terminal, which is being developed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), is nearing full operational status. The station is currently partially functional, with two trains either originating or terminating at the location. With recent clearance from the district collector on land acquisition, construction has accelerated.
According to railway officials, key developments at Hadapsar include a constructed circulating area and developing parking facilities. The present infrastructure consists of two main lines, two loop lines, and one common loop line. Upon completion, the station will feature three platforms, three loop lines, two stabling lines, and two main lines. An additional full-length loop line and a stabling line are planned to accommodate more train services.
Expansion Underway at Khadki Railway Station:
Simultaneously, significant infrastructure upgrades are in progress at Khadki railway station. Plans include the addition of two new platforms, bringing the total to five. The terminal will also undergo development to initiate long-distance train services, including those to Mumbai.
Currently, Khadki station houses two stabling lines which are being extended to accommodate full-length trains. Efforts are also focused on enhancing train maintenance capabilities and improving passenger amenities.
According to information provided by the railway division, the expansion at Khadki is expected to reduce the load on Pune railway station, which currently handles 150 to 180 trains daily and serves lakhs of passengers. The heavy rush at Pune station has led to frequent delays and operational challenges, which the upgrades at Khadki and Hadapsar aim to mitigate.
The visit by the Central Railway GM marks a significant push towards the timely completion of these crucial infrastructure projects in Pune Division.
