Pune Girl Faces Harassment and Blackmail on Instagram and Snapchat, FIR Registered
Pune, 25th June 2024: In Pune, a person became acquainted with a minor girl through Instagram and Snapchat. The individual then demanded obscene videos from the minor girl and even went so far as to morph the minor’s photos obscenely, intending to shame her. This disturbing incident unfolded in online exchanges on Snapchat and Instagram apps between February 2022 and June 2024.
Following this distressing ordeal, the minor girl complained to the Chaturshringi Police Station. A case was filed against the holder of an email ID under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 354 D (stalking), 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication), as well as relevant clauses of the Information Technology Act of 2000 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) of 2012.
According to police, the complainant and the accused became acquainted on Instagram and Snapchat. They started chatting and sharing photos. After that, the accused began to molest the minor girl, prompting her to block him. However, the accused continued to contact the minor girl using different phone numbers. He obtained email addresses belonging to the victim and her family, requesting nude photos and videos. Threatening to edit her face onto nude images and send them to her parents if she refused, the accused escalated the harassment by sending altered photos and molesting the victim.
The Chaturshringi Police are currently investigating this case.
