Pune: Free Health Check-Up Of Students In Pimpri-Chinchwad Reveals Alarming Number Of Diseases

Pimpri, 14th April 2023: A free health check-up of students in aided schools in Pimpri-Chinchwad, including municipal schools, under the Central Government’s Child Health Mission program, revealed that many students were suffering from various diseases. Out of the 270 schools examined, which had a total of 150,756 students, 4,235 were found to have various problems, while 231 had serious diseases, including appendicitis, heart disease, hernia, kidney problems, eye disease, and ear, nose, and throat issues.

Pimpri-Chinchwad City has 128 municipal primary and secondary schools, with about 48,000 students. Additionally, 142 aided schools in the city were given free health check-ups for one year, from April 2022 to March 2023, as part of the Central Government’s Child Health Mission program. The check-ups included various tests of the eyes, heart, stomach, ears, nose, and throat.

After the check-ups, 4,235 students were found to have various problems. A total of 231 students had serious diseases such as appendicitis (24), abdominal surgery (13), dentistry (71), heart disease (11), ENT (20), hernia (10), kidney (2), orthopedic surgery (16), cataract (12), and others (51).

These students were operated on under the Central Government’s Child Health Mission program, at a renowned multi-specialty hospital in the city. The program helped avert future dangers for the students, and all the children are now doing fine.

Sandeep Khot, Deputy Commissioner of Education Department, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, said, “The health examination of students has been completed, and health information of each student has been collected. Free health check-ups of students will be conducted twice a year from the next academic year.”
