Pune: Former Corporator Arrested After Fatal Attack on History-Sheeter in Pimpri Chinchwad

Pimpri Chinchwad, 2nd July 2024: A notorious history-sheeter was fatally attacked in Pimpri Chinchwad by 7-8 unknown assailants late last night. The criminal, recently released on bail after being imprisoned for plotting the murder of former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Shekhar Ovhal, succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Ravet Police Station has arrested former corporator Shekhar Ovhal on suspicion of involvement in the attack.

The deceased has been identified as Amol alias Dhanjya Gajanan Gorgale (34), a resident of Punawale Gaonthan.

According to police reports, Gorgale was attacked behind the well-known Samadhan Mutton Bhakri Restaurant in Punawale, resulting in serious injuries. He was being treated at a private hospital in Thergaon. Crime Branch teams arrived at the scene promptly after receiving the information.

The Anti-Extortion Squad has arrested former corporator Shekhar Ovhal in connection with this incident, along with two other suspects. A pistol and live cartridges were seized from him.

While undergoing treatment, Gorgale died. A case has been registered at Ravet Police Station. The police, suspecting involvement, have arrested Shekhar Ovhal and two others and are continuing to investigate the matter.

Chinchwad By-Election Dispute Escalates

It is reported that Ovhal attacked Gorgale as retaliation for an attempt on Ovhal’s life during the Chinchwad Constituency By-Elections in 2023. Gorgale was arrested at that time and had been in jail until recently. Shortly after his release on bail, he was allegedly attacked due to past animosity by Ovhal and his unknown accomplices.

Similar Incident in Mahalunge

In a similar incident, notorious history-sheeter Ganesh Tulwe (36), a resident of Khalumbre, Khed, was murdered yesterday. He was attacked with sharp weapons, and a case was registered late last night. The assailants have not been identified yet. A case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered, and the Mahalunge MIDC Police are investigating the matter further.
