Camp, 12th January 2024: Since 1890, the Agri-Horticultural Society of Western India has been entrusted with the management of Empress Garden. With roots dating back to 1830, the Society not only efficiently oversees the Garden but also organizes various social events aimed at providing recreation and fostering awareness, creating a bond between people and nature and the environment.

Every January, the Society hosts its annual flower show, originally considered recreation for a specific societal class. Over the years, however, the format has evolved to attract people from all walks of life and age groups. The event now includes competitions encouraging gardening enthusiasts to participate and contribute. These competitions span creative flower arrangements, roses, vegetable contests, and the decoration of flower beds. Individuals can showcase flowers from their personal gardens free of charge. For garden enthusiasts visiting Empress Garden, the event goes beyond competition, offering an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of newly featured arrangements.

During the Flower Show, the Garden is adorned with attractive arrangements of flower pots and imaginative setups of flowers and plants. All of these elements combine to make the Flower Show an eagerly awaited annual event for flower lovers. Nursery owners not only from Pune but also from Kolhapur, Sangli, Nashik, and even Andhra Pradesh make a point to visit Empress Garden during this floral celebration.

Art and handwriting competitions for children are integral to the event, witnessing participation from over 1000 children from various schools. This year, the competitions are scheduled for Sunday, 21st January 2024. The main attraction of the Flower Show lies in the variety of flower arrangements. The highlight of this year’s event includes Japanese-style IKEBANA flower arrangements and a diverse collection of Bonsai trees, sure to captivate visitors.

The Flower Show inauguration is set for noon on 25th January, with Vijaykumar Magar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), doing the honors.
