Sinhgad Road (Anand Nagar), 4th August 2024: In response to persistent rainfall and the increased discharge from Khadakwasla Dam, the Indian Army has deployed a flood relief column to assist residents in Ekta Nagar, Pune. The District Magistrate’s Office requested the deployment at 9:15 AM today, prompting an immediate response.

The relief team, consisting of approximately 100 personnel, includes Infantry Troops from the Maratha Light Infantry, an Engineer Task Force from the Bombay Engineers Group, and medical staff from the Military Hospital Khadki. The team is equipped with rescue boats, quadcopters, and other vital rescue tools.

Upon arrival, the relief column commander conducted an initial assessment and coordinated with local civil authorities. The high discharge from Khadakwasla Dam has significantly elevated water levels in several areas, including Ekta Nagar.

The Army has begun evacuating residents from inundated buildings and apartments, moving them to safer locations. Quadcopters and inflatable rubberized boats are being used to navigate and evaluate the affected areas efficiently.

Among the ongoing efforts, several individuals were successfully rescued from Dwarka Apartment. Emergency exits are being established in severely waterlogged residential buildings to ensure residents’ safety. Additional relief columns are on standby to provide further assistance if needed.
