Maval, 4th January 2024: In an unfortunate turn of events, five schools in Maval have been deprived of increased subsidies for the past two and a half years due to the application of urban area rules to rural and hilly regions. Approximately 33 to 35 teachers across these five schools have been awaiting grants during this period.

The MLA Prakash Deole Secondary School and Junior College in Shirgaon, Ushatai Lokhande Charitable Trust Secondary School in Sangise, Waru Kothurne Secondary School in Waru Kothurne, Bhairavanath Secondary School in Ghonshet, and Swatantryaveer Vamanrao Haibatrao Deshmukh Secondary School in Deoghar are among the institutions running on a partially subsidized basis. The decision to provide an increased phase of subsidy to these schools was made after the inception of the Thackeray government.

While schools in Maval taluka with 30 times enrollment in class 10 received the increased subsidy, the remaining five schools, lacking the stipulated enrollment, were deemed ineligible, citing rules designed for urban areas. Unfortunately, the teachers in these schools have faced subsidy deprivation for the past two years.

MLA Jayant Asgaonkar, representing the Teacher Constituency in Pune, has been in contact with the affected schools for the past two years. Despite raising the issue during sessions, the government has not addressed the matter. Asgaonkar now plans to meet the Chief Minister, urging him to intervene and find a resolution for the plight of the teachers and schools.

In response to the situation, Deepak Kesarkar, the Minister of School Education, acknowledged the need to investigate the matter. He emphasized the importance of checking how many such schools exist in the state, clarifying that some schools may not be eligible for subsidies.
