Pune, 15th July 2024: On Sunday at approximately 8 AM, a fire broke out in Ward No. 2 of Sassoon Hospital, specifically in the radiology department. The fire brigade at Kasba Fire Station received the alert and promptly dispatched a team to the scene.

Upon arrival, the fire brigade personnel discovered that a fire had ignited in the radiology department. Hospital staff had already initiated first-response measures by opening the door to the affected room and using three fire extinguishers in an attempt to control the blaze. The fire brigade team, consisting of driver Sameer Sheikh and Tandel Sanjay Gaikwad, along with firemen Shankar Wable and Shubham Deshmukh, quickly took over and successfully extinguished the fire.

The fire caused significant damage to equipment and furnishings, including computers, tables, chairs, monitors, printers, fans, routers, and other materials. There were no injuries or casualties reported as patients had been evacuated to an adjacent ward. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was likely triggered by an electrical short circuit.
