Viman Nagar, 28th November 2023: The Yerwada police station has filed a case against the driver of the chemical tanker involved in an accident where the vehicle, transporting a chemical substance, overturned in the Wadgaon Sheri area.

The police registered the case against the tanker driver, Rajaram Dubari Verma, on charges of negligently driving the tanker and endangering human lives.

The tanker, carrying ethylene oxide gas from Reliance Petrochemicals Company in Nagothane (Raigad district) to Balaji Company in Dharashiv, met with the accident on Nagar Road in Wadgaon Sheri. The incident occurred around midnight, resulting in a gas leak. Due to the flammable nature of ethylene oxide gas, firefighters responded by continuously spraying water on the overturned tanker to prevent any potential explosion.

Emergency measures were taken to alert and evacuate residents, restaurant owners, and shopkeepers within a three-kilometre radius. Traffic diversions were implemented on city roads, causing significant congestion. After 16 hours of effort, the firefighters successfully stopped the gas leak. The potential catastrophe was averted through careful handling and preventive measures.

Technicians from Reliance Petrochemicals visited the site, and the gas from the overturned tanker was safely transferred to another vehicle on Monday afternoon. The police registered the case against the tanker driver for endangering the lives of citizens, and further investigation is being carried out by Police Sub-Inspector Ashok Kate.
