Pune: Fatal Assault Shakes Yerwada Central Jail, Inmate Succumbs to Injuries
Yerwada, 28th December 2023: A prisoner was fatally assaulted by fellow inmates at Yerwada Central Jail in Pune. The incident occurred around 3 pm on Thursday.
The deceased prisoner has been identified as Mahesh Mahadev Chandanshive, a resident of Chikhali, Pune. He had been incarcerated since November 2022 in connection with a dacoity case registered by Pimpri police station.
According to a press release from the jail department, Chandanshive was housed in barrack number 1 in circle 1. Due to a previous feud, he was attacked with a barber’s scissor and other objects, resulting in injuries to his neck and abdomen. Although he was promptly taken to Sassoon Hospital by the jail doctor, he succumbed to his injuries.
An FIR has been filed at Yerwada police station against the accused prisoners Aniket Shrikrishna Samdur, Mahesh Tukaram Mane, Aditya Sambhaji Mure, and Ganesh Hanumant Mote.
The investigation is ongoing.
