Pune, 23rd August 2024: Even after 15 years, the family in the Naina Pujari rape and murder case is still awaiting fast-track justice. Abhijit Pujari, the husband of Naina, expressed regret that they are still fighting for justice and for the accused to be executed.

Naina Pujari, a software company employee, was abducted by cab drivers on 6th October 2009. She was gang-raped and murdered by the accused, and her dissected body was discovered two days later. The entire state of Maharashtra, including Pune, was shaken by this incident. The then government promised that the case would be tried in a fast-track court, and a special court was appointed.

The family waited nine years for the accused to be punished, and the Pune Court ultimately sentenced them to death. However, the accused filed a petition in the Bombay High Court, delaying the final verdict. Abhijit Pujari expressed his frustration, stating, “We are trying to expedite the verdict and ensure the death penalty for the accused, but nothing has been achieved except despair.”
