Pune, 31st July 2024: The admission process for 25% of reserved seats in private schools under the Right to Education Act (RTE) has been extended till 5th August, providing relief to parents of students who still need to secure admission.

Director of Primary Education Sharad Gosavi announced this through a circular. The court case arose from changes made by the education department to the RTE admission process in February. The Bombay High Court declared these changes unconstitutional. Hence, the education department must implement the RTE admission process as before. The court proceedings delayed the admission process by about two months.

This year, 1,05,242 seats are available for admission in 9,217 schools across the state. Out of 2,42,516 applications, 93,009 students were admitted. The waiting list includes 71,276 students. The education department had set a deadline from 23rd to 31st July for students whose admissions were declared. This deadline ended today, with 39,408 students securing admission during this period. The extension of the admission process has provided relief to parents of students who have not yet been admitted.
