Pune, 7th November 2022: Solar energy projects have been set up at various parking lots in Pune city owned by the municipal corporation. The electricity generation from this project will be used for charging e-vehicles. The pilot project in this regard will be started from the parking area of Pune railway station.

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started using electricity-running cars for environmental conservation. Although the policy for the use of e-vehicles has been decided, due to the lack of charging stations, there are difficulties in using these vehicles to their full capacity. Therefore, the municipality is going to implement the experiment of e-charging through solar energy. The municipality has multi-storey parking lots in different parts of the city. It is possible to set up a solar power plant on the roof of the parking lot. In this regard, parking lots in the city were inspected. This project will be implemented on a pilot basis at Tukaram Shinde Station in the Pune Railway Station area. It will be implemented in a phased manner in other parking lots.

Srinivas Kandul, head of the electricity department of the PMC informed us that the final plan has been prepared.

A separate department has been made operational in the Municipal Corporation regarding the use of e-vehicles. These vehicles are being used for municipal work and inspection tours. However, as there are no charging stations, municipal vehicles have to go to Bhosari in Pimpri-Chinchwad. So a way is being sought for it. A solar power project with a capacity of 300 kilowatts will be set up at the parking lot in the Pune railway station area. There is a PMPML garage next to this parking lot and it will be possible to charge electric cars (e-buses), two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
