Pune: Excise Department To Monitor Sale Of Illegal Alcohol During New Year Celebration
Pune, 27th December 2022: The Maharashtra Excise Department, Pune, has formed 24 squads – 14 regular and 10 special – and numerous checkpoints to closely monitor the supply, transport, and sale of illicit alcoholic beverages.
According to section 65 of the Bombay Prohibition Act, it is illegal to sell, transport, or possess illicit alcohol. 358 suspect automobiles have been examined by the Maharashtra Excise Department in Pune so far.
Officers from the excise department will patrol during the night and work around the clock to maintain law and order. And if any undesirable liquor is discovered coming from other States, stern action will be taken. The newly formed squads will be monitoring the supply, consumption, and sale of illicit alcoholic beverages.
According to C B Rajput, Superintendent of the Pune State Excise Department, the teams have intensified patrolling.
