Pune Excise Department Seizes Rs 21.50 Lakhs Worth of Smuggled Liquor from Goa

Nira, 15th July 2024: The Pune State Excise Department’s flying squad has intercepted goods valued at over Rs 21.50 lakhs in Purandar Taluka, including smuggled foreign liquor from Goa. The seizure occurred during a routine vehicle checkpoint on the Nira Lonand road in Nira village, Purandar Taluka, Pune District.

An Ashok Leyland truck bearing registration number MH 03 CV 9468 was halted for inspection during the routine check. Upon examination, officials discovered 7,680 bottles, each containing 180 ML of liquor smuggled from Goa without proper permits or authorization for transport and sale.

Two individuals, residents of Surat, Gujarat, and Dahisar, Mumbai Suburban, were apprehended in connection with the smuggling operation. The seized goods, comprising foreign liquor and the truck, amounted to a total worth of Rs 21,69,400. A case has been filed under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act of 1949.

Sub Inspector AB Patil, assisted by VM Mane, conducted the operation, with AB Patil continuing the investigation into the matter.
