Pune, 26th June 2021: Citizens of Navi Sangvi and Old Sangvi had to suffer unnecessarily due to long power cuts on Thursday and Friday. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited’s (MSEDCL) two high-pressure underground lines were disconnected due to the excavation work being done using Poclain machines by contractors for road widening and drainage work at two different places.

These incidents caused major inconvenience to citizens. A case has been registered against the contractors in both the cases at Sangvi police station.

In the first incident, the excavation work was being done using poclain machines for widening the road near Dhore Patil Bridge in the Sangvi Phata area that falls under the Pimpri division. Due to the excavation work, MSEDCL’s high voltage power line was cut at 9.30 am on Thursday (June 24). As a result, about 12,500 consumers in the old Sangvi area had to endure power cuts for about two and a half hours.

The second incident occurred the next day. On Friday, the area near Shitole petrol pump in Navi Sangvi was excavated for drainage work at 12.30 pm. Around 1,900 consumers in Navi Sangvi faced a power cut for six hours as it cut MSEDCL’s another high voltage power line.

In both cases, even though it was not MSEDCL’s fault, the consumers were outraged. It had to bear the financial cost of repairing the broken underground power lines and the loss of electricity sales. MSEDCL has lodged a separate complaint at Sangvi police station in both cases and a case has been registered against the concerned contractors.
