Pune, 18th January 2024: Former corporators Ujjwal Keskar, Suhas Kulkarni, and Prashant Badhe have urged Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Vikram Kumar to streamline the construction approval process, citing its complexity and time-consuming nature. The demand comes in the context of recent concessions provided for side margins during construction in central Peths and Gavthans.

In response to the request for relaxation of side margin conditions in Gavthans and Peths, the Maharashtra State Government granted concessions, allowing for the redevelopment of properties. PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar decided to facilitate this by implementing concessions with nominal fees. However, the construction approval process has become cumbersome and time-intensive.

The construction file approval process involves multiple steps, with the file travelling through nearly 20 tables. The process includes drafting a statement by the Assistant Building Inspector, followed by signatures from the Building Inspector, Deputy Engineer, Executive Engineer, Superintending Engineer, and City Engineer. The file then moves to Savarkar Bhawan for inward registration, followed by review by the Vigilance Department. After signing by the Additional Commissioner (General), the file returns to the PMC Commissioner for final approval. The cycle repeats, involving numerous tables and causing delays.

Former corporators Keskar, Kulkarni, and Badhe have appealed to Commissioner Vikram Kumar to simplify and expedite the construction approval process. They argue that the current complexity and delays are hindering the approval of proposals. The demand aligns with the broader objective of making the construction approval system more efficient and responsive to the needs of the citizens in Pune.
