Deccan, 4th January 2024: The Yashavantrao Chavan bridge, serving as a crucial link between Karve Road and Shastri Road near Poona Hospital, is presently undergoing essential strengthening and repair work initiated by the civic body. To ensure the safety of the ongoing repairs, temporary barricades have been strategically placed at both ends of the bridge, allowing only two-wheelers to navigate through.

In response to incidents involving cars disregarding the usage restrictions in recent months, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a directive permitting only two-wheelers to access the bridge until the completion of the maintenance project. A thorough inspection last year revealed the need for a comprehensive replacement of all bearings, with approximately 96 bearings being swapped out due to aging concerns.

The replacement of these bearings is a pivotal step aimed at enhancing the bridge’s overall capacity and ensuring its structural integrity. The repair work is anticipated to conclude in the coming months, marking a significant milestone in the restoration of this vital transportation artery.
