Pune, 12th October 2022: All four dams in the Khadakwasla Dam Chain Project are full to capacity this year. This year, 23.05 TMC of water has been released into the Mutha river from the Khadakwasla dam chain project. The city needs 1.24-1.5 TMC of water every month. According to this, so far water is sufficient for the city for 1.5 years.

Currently, 29.08 TMC i.e. 99.77 per cent of water storage has accumulated in four dams namely Temghar, Varasgaon, Panshet and Khadakwasla which supply water to the city. This year the pre-monsoon rains did not make an appearance in the area of the dams. Due to this, the dams supplying water to the city had reached the bottom.

Against this backdrop, it was time to cut water in the city of Pune and the implementation of the water-cut decision was also started on July 4. However, after that, there was heavy rain in the catchment area of the dams. As a result, all four dams in the Khadakwasla chain of dams are full to capacity. So till the next monsoon, the city and the district will not have to worry about water for drinking and agriculture purposes.

Meanwhile, this season, on July 12, the Khadakwasla dam was filled to its full capacity, and the release of water from this dam into the Mutha river was started. After that, Panshet dam was 100 per cent full on August 11, while Varasgaon dam was 100 per cent full on August 13. So the release of water from these three dams was started.

Although the rains are returning now, the catchment areas of the dams are experiencing sporadic rains. As a result, the release of water from the dams is currently closed. So far 23.05 TMC of water has been released into the river. The city needs one and a half to one and a half TMC of water every month.
