Junnar, 9th October 2024: A leopard entered from a soybean field this morning and fatally attacked a 40-year-old woman, dragging her into the fields in Junnar Taluka, near the Ahmednagar-Kalyan Highway within the Pimpri Pendhar village limits. Villagers became aware of the incident and informed the Maharashtra Forest Department. In response, the department deployed cages, cameras, and drones to capture the leopard, but it has not yet been caught.

Around 6 AM today, Sujata Ravindra Dere (40, resident of Pimpri Pendhar) was outside her house when a leopard emerged from a nearby soybean field and dragged her 20 to 25 feet into the field. The Forest Department later found Sujata Dere dead from the leopard’s attack.

To capture the dangerous leopard, the Forest Department set up emergency measures, including 30 cages and 15 camera traps. Although the incident caused an uproar, Junnar MLA Atul Benake and local police managed the situation effectively. Authorities have urged residents to take precautions, such as clearing grass near homes and roads, ensuring proper lighting around homes, using indoor toilets, avoiding outdoor activities during dark hours, and not roaming alone.
