Pune, 23rd March 2024: Pune’s nightlife scene is under scrutiny as Pune Police Commissioner, Amitesh Kumar, has issued a stern warning to club owners, including those of Elrow, Unicorn in Kalyani Nagar, and Escada in Viman Nagar.

Speaking at the Punekar News Women’s Achievers Awards 2024 ceremony yesterday, Commissioner Kumar disclosed that counseling sessions were recently conducted with Sumit Chaudhary, one of the owners of these establishments. However, if they persist in operating beyond the permitted hours, they will face severe consequences.

Commissioner Kumar stressed that no clubs should operate beyond 1:30 AM, aiming to prevent disturbances to residents in Pune’s residential areas. He announced plans for collaborative efforts between the police force, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and the excise department to ensure compliance with regulations.

Local residents have voiced their concerns, urging authorities to consider revoking the licenses of repeat offenders. They have even proposed accompanying the Commissioner on a drive to inspect pubs in Kalyani Nagar and verify compliance with parking regulations, informed Monica Sharma, an activist from Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar (TSKN).

The decision follows a series of complaints, including noise pollution and late-night operational violations. Elrow Club, in particular, has faced scrutiny, with 16 cases and three FIRs filed against them. Unicorn Club has also faced legal action, with 13 cases registered against them for similar offences.

On August 9, 2023, the then DCP (Zone 4) Shashikant Borate sent a strongly worded letter to both the Pune Excise Department and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), urging the cancellation of liquor and food licenses for these establishments due to repeated violations.

Earlier, District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh had utilized his authority to revoke their licenses during Dry Days.
