Daund, 30th October 2023: In a bid to meet the increasing electricity demand and enhance the quality of power supply, Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (Mahatransco) is set to replace a 25 MVA power transformer with a more robust 50 MVA unit at the Yavat Ultra High-Pressure Substation.

This critical infrastructure upgrade is scheduled to commence on Thursday, November 2nd, and extend through to Friday, November 13th.

During this transformative period, the electricity supply to Uruli Kanchan city and the four neighbouring villages under the Mulshi Division of MSEDCL will be maintained. However, an important note of caution is sounded. If adequate load management measures are not implemented promptly, there is the potential for cyclical electricity load regulation.

The existing 132/33 KV ultra-high voltage substation at Yavat (Taluka Daund) presently houses a 25 MVA power transformer. To ensure the growing power requirements are met efficiently, the installation of a 50 MVA power transformer is a necessity. Thus, the replacement of the existing unit with the larger transformer is scheduled between the 2nd and 13th of November.

The Koregaon Bhima 33/11 KV substation of Mahatransco draws power from the high-pressure substation, extending electricity supply to 1200 agricultural pumps in Peth, Mirwadi, Shindewadi, Hingangaon, and serves approximately 15,700 consumers in the villages of Uruli Kanchan, Ashtapur, Hingangaon, Khamgaon Tek, and Tilekarwadi via four power lines. Nevertheless, owing to the planned capacity enhancement works at Mahatransco’s substation, a three-megawatt electricity deficit is expected.

To mitigate this shortage, MSEDCL has executed technical planning for power supply through alternative systems to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across all regions, including Uruli Kanchan.

However, it’s imperative to note that if electricity demand surges during the transformer installation, and unforeseen technical issues disrupt load management, there is a possibility of cyclical load regulation for three-hour intervals, impacting the power supply to 1200 agricultural pumps and the villages of Uruli Kanchan, Ashtapur, Hingangaon, Khamgaon Tek, and Tilekarwadi.
