Pune: Elderly Woman Killed, Son Injured in Dumper Truck Accident in Wagholi

Wagholi, 12th August 2024: An elderly woman was killed and her son injured after a dumper truck collided with their two-wheeler on Saturday, 10th August, around 10:30 PM on the Wagholi-Awhalwadi road near the Weekly Bazar Ground.

The deceased has been identified as Alka Jungade, 66, a resident of Wagholi. Her son, Piyush Jungade, 36, also from Wagholi, sustained injuries in the accident. A case has been registered against the dumper driver, Rahul Shivaji Lokhande, 40, who is also a resident of Wagholi.

According to police reports, the mother and son were travelling on a two-wheeler when a speeding dumper truck hit them from behind. The impact of the collision resulted in the mother’s death, while the son was seriously injured.

Residents of Wagholi have raised concerns about the increasing heavy traffic and the reckless driving of dumper truck drivers in the area. They report that many drivers speed excessively to complete their rounds, often losing control of their vehicles. This reckless behaviour has led to numerous accidents and fatalities. Observers have also noted that drivers frequently use mobile phones while driving, exacerbating the issue. Locals are now demanding stricter speed regulations to prevent further tragedies.
