Pune: Elderly Couple Found Dead In Flat, Police Suspect Husband Died By Suicide

Shukrawar Peth, 18th June 2023: A couple was found dead today in their flat in Chinchechi Talim area of Shukrawar Peth, Pune. Police said that the husband is suspected to have died by suicide.
The deceased individuals have been identified as Hemant Ramakrishna Thorat (64) and his wife Sunita (58). They resided near Seva Mitra Mandal. In the morning, the door to the Thorat couple’s residence remained closed, raising suspicion among their neighbors. Concerned for their well-being, the neighbors attempted to make contact, but received no response. Alarmed by the situation, they informed the Khadak Police Station about the incident.
Upon the arrival of the police, Sunita was found unconscious. It was later revealed that Hemant had taken his own life by hanging himself. Both Sunita and Hemant were rushed to the hospital, but they were pronounced dead before any medical intervention could be provided.
According to police, Sunita had been suffering from an illness for the past few years, yet the exact cause of her demise remains unknown.
Police are questioning Thorat’s relatives to gather more information about the circumstances leading up to this tragic incident. The police have also stated that the postmortem report will shed light on the cause of Sunita’s death.
