Pune: Drunk Driver Rear-Ends Broken-Down Car in Daund; One Dead, Two Injured
Daund, 23rd August 2024: Another fatal accident has occurred in Pune District, this time on Pune-Solapur Road in Daund Taluka. A group of four friends was en route to Akkalkot to visit Shree Swami Samarth Samadhi Math when their car broke down. While they were waiting, a container truck rear-ended their vehicle, dragging it along. The container truck driver, who was drunk, has been detained. One young man died on the spot, while his friends sustained serious injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Rohit Pokale. This incident occurred on Wednesday (21st August) morning at 11 AM, and the footage captured on CCTV has gone viral. The arrested driver has been identified as Pradeep Mane, and a case has been registered against him at Yavat Police Station.

According to reports, the accident happened in Wakhari village of Daund Taluka. The group of friends was travelling to Akkalkot in Solapur District when their car overheated near Wakhari village. They pulled the car to the side and got out while waiting for it to cool down. One of the friends saw the container coming from the Pune side and managed to jump out, but the others were crushed by the container, with one being dragged by it. The driver, who was drinking and driving, has been detained, and Yavat Police are investigating the matter further.
