Pune: Drunk Driver Arrested After Viral Video in Deccan Area
Deccan, 11th August 2024: In a shocking incident on Sunday morning, a driver was arrested for driving under the influence on Karve Road, Pune, after a video capturing his reckless behavior went viral. The arrest occurred around 9 a.m., just hours before Maratha leader Manoj Jarange Patil’s peace rally was set to take place in the city.
The driver, identified as Shubham Gupta, was stopped by police near Savarkar Bhavan after a concerned citizen recorded and posted a video of his erratic driving online. The video quickly gained traction, prompting swift action by local authorities.
Senior Police Inspector Girija Nimbalkar, in-charge of Deccan Gymkhana police station, confirmed the incident, stating, “As soon as the video of the man went viral, our patrolling officers intercepted the vehicle. The driver was visibly intoxicated and was immediately taken for medical examination.”
Upon inspection, it was evident that the car had sustained damage prior to the police intervention, with noticeable bruising on the left side bumper. A doctor’s sign was also seen on the car’s windshield.
Inspector Nimbalkar added, “We are currently trying to determine where the car might have hit. If no complainant comes forward, the police will file charges as the complainant.”
